Product & Materials

What wood are the planters made from?

Our planters are made using high-quality FSC structural-grade timber sourced from Scottish sawmills. We carefully select strong, durable timber to ensure every planter is built to last.

Is the timber treated?

Yes — the timber is treated with an wood treatment to help protect it from insects and the weather. For additional long-term protection, we recommend applying a paint, stain or exterior wood treatment after purchase.

Are the planters suitable for outdoor use?

Absolutely — our planters are specifically designed for outdoor use and built to handle the British weather all year round.

Are they handmade?

Yes — every planter is handmade by us in the Highlands of Scotland. We take pride in building each planter with care, attention to detail, and quality craftsmanship.

Where is the timber sourced?

We source our timber from Scottish sawmills wherever possible, helping support local suppliers and reduce unnecessary transport miles.

How strong are the planters?

Our planters are built using thick structural-grade timber and are designed to be extremely strong and durable. They’re made to handle the weight of compost and plants without becoming weak or unstable over time.

Care & Maintenance

Do I need to treat the planter?

Our planters are already treated with an organic wood treatment for protection against insects and the weather. However, we do recommend applying a paint, stain or exterior wood treatment periodically to help keep the timber looking its best and extend its lifespan.

How long will the planter last?

Our planters are built using strong structural-grade timber and are designed to last for many years outdoors. Lifespan will vary depending on weather exposure and maintenance, but regular treatment will help maximise durability.

Can I paint or stain the planter?

Yes — our planters can be painted or stained to suit your garden style. We recommend using a high-quality exterior wood paint, stain or treatment designed for outdoor use.

Should I line the inside?

Yes — we strongly recommend lining the inside of the planter. A breathable membrane or planter liner helps protect the timber from constant contact with wet compost, improves drainage control, and can help extend the lifespan of the planter.

Do the planters have drainage holes?

Yes — all of our planters include drainage gaps to allow excess water to escape and help keep plants healthy.

How do I maintain the wood?

The timber can be maintained by occasionally cleaning the surface and reapplying an exterior wood treatment, paint or stain when needed. This helps protect the wood from the elements and keeps the planter looking great year after year.

Sizes & Planting

What can I plant in them?

Our planters are suitable for a wide range of plants including flowers, herbs, vegetables, shrubs, small trees and ornamental plants. They’re perfect for patios, gardens, balconies and outdoor spaces of all sizes.

Which size should I choose?

The best size depends on what you’d like to plant and where the planter will be placed. Larger planters are ideal for shrubs, small trees and mixed displays, while smaller sizes work well for herbs, flowers and compact spaces.

Are custom sizes available?

Yes — we can make custom size planters to suit your space or project. If you need a specific size, simply get in touch and we’ll be happy to provide a quote.

Are the dimensions external or internal?

All dimensions listed on our website are external measurements unless otherwise stated.

How heavy are the planters?

As our planters are built using strong structural-grade timber, they can be quite heavy — especially once filled with compost and plants. We recommend positioning the planter where you intend to use it before filling.
